Biography

  • Research Assistant Middle Eastern Studies Center (ORSAM) in Ankara

interested in studying North African and Mediterranean politics. Ms. Unal had her B.A. degree in International Relations from Bilkent University and is a M.A. candidate at Hacettepe University in the same department. Previously she interned for Turkish Foreign Policy Institute, United Nations Turkey and SETA. Her academic publications include a master’s thesis on Turkey’s security policy and its imminent repercussions. She writes monthly for Ortadoğu Analiz.

Ms. Unal follows the developments in North African society and politics as a volatile part of the region and works to improve understanding and cooperation at academic and social levels. She participates in national and international academic conferences focused on MENA and think-tank workshops at international platforms.

Recently Ms. Unal participated in DGAP (German Council for Foreign Relations) extensive workshop on promoting think-tank work on North Africa studies. She is going to present a policy paper on Morocco’s immigration policy and its connections with the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean in Morocco.

Along with her native Turkish, she speaks English, French, Spanish and basic Arabic.
