INTERVIEW WITH THE HEAD OF MASS COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT IN THE COLLAGE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES IN OMAN SULTAN QABOOS UNIVERSITY

ORSAM: Can you introduce yourself please?

AL SHAMSI: My name is Said Obeid Al Shamsi. I am the head of mass communication department in the collage of social sciences in Sultan Qaboos University. I think Oman has a very good relationship with Turkey. This relationship has also developed to not only cultural ties but also economic relationship in which that Turkey right now is doing many projects in Oman including the international airport plus other thinks. Our relationship with Turkey can be traced back to hundreds of years, both countries were empires and the both have communication and economic ties with each other. Not only in the midline of the two countries but also the other countries such as East Africa. They think with this kind of relationship historically Oman can also very good example with the relationship with Turkey especially that both countries are very peaceful countries. They look at the world affairs from a very realistic point of view. That is all I think I can say. From the cultural point of view, I think also very important, for I say as academicians to pursue or to develop this relationship between Turkey and Oman from the educational point of view. For instance we can look for the possibilities of exchange programs such as like student exchange programs or trainings between Omani students and Turkish students especially at the summer time I am sure that maybe some of the Turkish delegations will be coming to Oman soon and it’s good also to discuss this issue there might be a very big window for students from both countries actually to know each other much better and also the exchange views and experiences.

What do you think about Turkish and Arab countries relation in the future and what will you do for the future?

I think that the relationship between the Arabs and Turks is inseparable you cannot separate this relationship because there is history and nobody; no realistic persons will really forget that history. This go in about language itself, even the Turk’s language has many Arabic words we borrow also from Turks too many things even there is something we ate. All these can be traced back to Ottoman or Turkish Empire. What does that mean? It means that from a cultural, social even religious prospective from geographical prospective, we should develop very good ties with Turkey because our strength is in our unity. And I think right now with the globalization issue and with the advancement of Turkey in different areas such as like economic areas and military areas, we shall benefit from that as much as we can and also we should give ourselves the opportunity to explore more economic, political, social and cultural ties with Turkey. Maybe the past was not very helpful for the Arabs and Turks but  we shall not look at past from a negative prospective we shall look for the future and the future says that we have to be united and we have to develop these ties as much as we can.

    Thank you very much.
