DISCUSSION ON POSSIBLE REFLECTIONS OF IRANIAN PRESIDENCY ELECTIONS ON IRAN’S DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN POLICY

On June 17th 2009, ORSAM organized a meeting, where the Iranian Presidency elections were assessed. During the meeting, the reflections of the election process and its consequences on Iran's political system and foreign policy were handled. The Middle East Specialist Dr. Serkan Taflıoğlu, METU Department of International Relations Research Assistant Bayram Sinkaya, and ORSAM Shi'ism Research Advisor Kaan Dilek participated as speakers in the meeting, which was moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Şahin, Assistant Professor in Gazi University Department of International Relations. 

During the first session of the meeting, the importance of election results in terms of Wilayatul Faqih, which composes the main ideology of Iranian Islam Republic and institutions, was handled. The speakers primarily put forth the historical background of Wilayatul Faqih. Then, they made certain inferences by relating this background with the present dynamics of the Iranian politics.
