Meeting With Rudaw Newspaper Team

On September 1, 2010 ORSAM hosted a meeting with the Executive Editor of Arbil based weekly Rudaw Newspaper  published in Kurdish Ako Mohammed, the journalists Rebwar Karim and Goran Mohammed Salih. During the meeting in which guest press members participated, subjects such as the developments in Turkish domestic policy, the relationships with the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Administration and the status of the Iraqi Kurdish press were handled. 

Ako Mohammed who gave information about Rudaw Newspaper, published since April 2008, said that currently the newspaper was published in Iraq's Kurdish region and in Europe. Stating that while in Arbil 7000 copies of the newspaper were printed in Arabic and in Sorani dialect, in Europe 4000 copies were printed in Latin alphabet and in Zaza language, Mohammed mentioned that they completed their preparations for publishing the Kurdish version of Le Monde Diplomatique. Touching on the relationships between Turkey and the Iraqi Kurds, Mohammed emphasized that their relationship was actually a line of descent. Mohammed recorded that Turkey was never harmed by the Iraqi Kurds and therefore there couldn't be any obstacle before featuring of friendship. “I myself am a member of a family which is located on Turkey-Iraq border; but also which is split into two parts by the border,” Mohammed added. 

The journalist of Rudaw newspaper Rebwar Karim said that they were watching the Turkish constitutional referendum process with interest and the Iraqi Kurdish public opinion had a great interest in Turkey. Karim highlighted that right orientation of bilateral recognition and description process in relationships between Turkish and Iraqi Kurds was necessary. 

And the Dİrector of ORSAM Hasan Kanbolat recorded that the relationships between the businessmen, politicians and the statesmen remained weak in intellectuals level and therefore problems in healthy development of opinion climate occurred. Kanbolat drew attention to the great importance of studying and predicting the future of the relationships between the Turkish and Iraqi Kurds.
