ORSAM and TESEV Workshop Entitled “Regional Impact Analysis: Syrian Conflict”

ORSAM (Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies) and TESEV (The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation), with support from the Stabilization Unit of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, held a joint workshop entitled “Regional Impact Analysis: Syrian Conflict” in Istanbul on 6 March 2014. Officials, academics, researchers and representatives of civil society organizations from Turkey, the UK and Syria attended the event. The workshop was organized in the context of an ongoing project on the regional implications of the Syrian crisis, conducted by the Stabilization Unit.
 
The workshop started with the opening speeches given by Sabiha Şenyücel Gündoğar, Foreign Policy Coordinator at TESEV, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şaban Kardaş, President of ORSAM, and Louise Hoppe from the Stabilization Unit. The effect of the Syrian crisis on Turkey and Iraq from different aspects were discussed through out the day-long discussions organized into six different sessions. The workshop was concluded with the evaluations from the participants as to how the spill over effects of the Syrian crisis to the region, especially to Turkey and Iraq, could be handled.
