Strategic Vision Workshop for Syrian Turkmen

A meeting, entitled “Strategic Vision Workshop for Syrian Turkmen”, has been organized in Ankara in cooperation with the Syrian Turkmen Assembly and Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM). Academics specialized in international law, political history and international relations; representatives of different think tanks and experts from several institutions participated in the meeting as well as Syrian Turkmen Assembly Executive Committee and members of the Assembly.
 
Abdurrahman Mustafa, President of Syrian Turkmen Assembly and Şaban Kardaş, ORSAM President delivered their opening speeches at the beginning of the workshop. Various legal arrangements concerning the situation of Turkmens in Syria were discussed within the context of bilateral agreements, Syrian law and international law in the first session called “Syrian Turkmen on the Platform of International Law”. Political initiatives which Syrian Turkmen have undertaken in the run up to the negotiations which will start in January 2016 were touched upon in the second session called “Strategic Vision for Syrian Turkmen within Diplomatic Process”. In addition to this, Turkmen's current situation and the future perspectives in terms of Syrian war were also discussed.
