School of Personal Development and Leadership for Iraqi Turkmen Women

The Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM) and Woman, Family and Youth Center (KAGEM) organized a project entitled “School of Personal Development and Leadership for Iraqi Turkmen Women” in 14-19 September 2015 in Ankara. With this project, 15 women who came from Kirkuk and Erbil were provided training. In addition to lectures, participants also visited institutions in Ankara. Besides, participants were received by Prime Minister of Turkish Republic Ahmet Davutoğlu’s wife Sare Davutoğlu in the Prime Minister's residence on 15 September 2015. In this visit, Turkmen women's condition and problems in Iraq have been discussed. During the visit, the need for organization of training activities of this kind was expressed.

During the School of Personal Development and Leadership for Iraqi Turkmen Women, some lectures were given to the participants. These are;

– Political Situation in the Middle East,
– Team Work and Effective Leadership,
– Woman and Identity,
– Turkmen Women’s Rights in Iraq,
– Islam and Woman
– Social Life in the Middle East (Education, Ethnic, Religious and Sectarian situation …)
– Muslim Woman with Historical Figures
– Stress and Anger Management
– Effective Communication Techniques
– Eloquence
– Communication with Media, Effective use of the Media
– Social Issues and Woman in Crisis Management
– Me and the other: from past to today, being a Woman in the Middle East
– Violations of Women's rights in the Modern World (right to education and right to life)
– Leadership and Management, Entrepreneurship, Woman's Leadership
– Political Organizations and Political Participation for Women's Rights
– Women's Rights in the Universal Law

In addition, Yunus Emre Institute and Ministry of Family and Social Policies were visited. In these visits, institutions were introduced and information was given about the activities of these institutions. By this way, Turkmen women were able to acquire knowledge of these institutions and express their problems, needs and requests at first hand to the Turkish authorities.
 
At the last day of the training, a certificate ceremony was held. ORSAM President Assoc. Prof. Şaban Kardaş, Türkiye Diyanet Foundation 2nd Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mazhar Bilgin and KAGEM Director Hicret Toprak also attended the certificate ceremony. Participants received certificates of “School of Personal Development and Leadership for Iraqi Turkmen Women” upon their participation and success.
