“Turkey-Iraq Relations” Workshop

A workshop titled “Turkey-Iraq Relations”was held on 8 June2015 by the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM) with the support of the Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry. Iraqi specialists and academicians took part in the workshop as well as the participants from Al-Nahrain Center, which is the subsidiary of Iraqi Prime Ministry Undersecretary of National Security and with which ORSAM signed a cooperation protocol on 26 March 2015. The workshop, to which Turkish specialists, academicians and bureaucrats also contributed, was held as an all-day event. The workshop consisted of three sessions, which were about bilateral political relations, counterterrorism and the issues of economy and energy within bilateral relations. During the workshop,

•      Political process in Iraq and Turkey’s approach,
•      Relations with Kurdistan Regional Government,
•      Bilateral relations in the media,
•      Future of Turkmens and Iraq,
•      Regional developments,
•      The ISIS and regional terrorist threat,
•      Radicalization,
•      PKK issue,
•      Migration issue and refugees,
•      Turkey-Iraq High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council
•      Memoranda of understanding between the two countries,
•      Energy issue in Turkish-Iraqi relations,
•      Border gates,

•     Trading volume and investment opportunities were discussed and what kind of possible steps could be taken in order to improve Turkish-Iraqi relationswasevaluated.
