The Meeting of Strategic Studies Summit by ORSAM and NESA

Strategic Studies Summit was held in 24-25 March 2015 with the partnership of Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM) and American based research center, Near East South Asia (NESA). This year the Summit meeting, held by NESA for many years, was hosted in cooperation with ORSAM in Antalya.
 
Every year, the group members of Strategic Studies Network (SSN) come together in the Summit meetings. SSN is the world’s greatest network of research centers, including 80 research centers and 30 countries from North Africa, Europe, Middle East, Central Asia, South East Asia and Far East. More than a hundred participants from 80 research centers had attended to the Summit meeting held in Antalya. In divided groups, the members of the SSN had discussed various issues in detail for two days. With the participation of many experts from different countries, diverse perspectives were presented and each country had the opportunity to reflect their own experiences. The Summit meeting had begun with the opening speeches by the president of NESA, Terry Wolff and the president of ORSAM Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şaban Kardaş. In the opening panel, the representative of the Arab League to Turkey, Ambassador Muhammet El Fatah Naciri made a presentation on the latest events in the Middle East after the Arab League. After the opening panel, the participants made presentations and had discussions on five different working groups that were determined beforehand. The groups and subjects of the Summit of this year are the following:

-The Lessons to Fight against Radicalism

-Global Powers in the Region of Middle East and the North Africa: Cooperation or Rivalry?

-Shale Gas Revolution: Economic and Strategic Effects

-Climate Change: The Impact on Security and Governance

For two days, the participants had come together in five sessions to make presentations on the related subjects. With the contribution of participants on the presentations, the issues had been discussed in detail. The Summit meeting had ended with the final meeting in which each representator of groups had shared the issues they discussed and the results that were reached with the other participants. Each group will prepare a final text on the results they reached from the group works in six months and publish the works to present to the decision makers and public.

The SSN Summit meeting hosted by ORSAM in 2015 has enabled the establishment of permanent relations in broad geographies; enhancing cooperation, promoting the ways of dialogue between different countries, vivid discussions about the current political, economic, and strategic issues of the world by the experts on the fields providing various perspectives. The members of SSN will meet before the next year’s summit to prepare the final version of the texts of the group works in six months.
