Discussing The Middle East in English

ORSAM Middle East Discussion Group aims to understand and discuss the dizzying developments in the Middle East in terms of political, economic, social and international relations. It will meet regularly on a two-hour schedule each week to review and discuss these issues. Each week published articles, papers or book chapters related to Middle East will be recommended and a discussion will be held in English with the participants. In this way, the participants will be familiar with the developments in the region while they improve their English-speaking skills in an interactive environment.

The group will be in an interactive discussion format in which participants discuss weekly assigned materials. In addition to the determined materials, some other published sources can be included in the discussion. Participants are invited to speak out of intellectual and research concerns and to work towards collective reflection and thinking about issues. Participants can be students and academics but may also be others with interests in the field reflecting varied disciplines. People from different disciplines and various academic background can participate in the program. Participants will be encouraged to express their ideas in the most effective way by thinking together on regional issues and to make in-depth discussions related to determined topics.

The medium of discourse will be English. This discussion group is facilitated by an American native academic.
