Iraqi Turkmen Personal Development and Leadership School

On 24 August-4 September 2015, a training program for 22 Turkmen students from Kirkuk, Erbil, Tal Afar, Baghdad, Kifri and Tuzhurmatu in Iraq was held in cooperation with ORSAM and TIKA, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Diplomacy Academy, within the context of “Iraqi Turkmen Pesonal Development and Leadership School” project. In addition, the delegation of the participants was hosted by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on 5 September 2015. During the visit, Turkey's policy toward Iraqi Turkmens and Turkmens’ problems were discussed.

During the training program titled "Iraqi Turkmen Self-improvement and Leadership School", following courses were conducted;

-Turkey's policy toward the Middle East,
-Politics, Leadership Process, Effective Leadership and Teamwork,
-Economics and Political Relations,
-The Position of Turkmen Youth within the ideals of the Turkish World,
-Religion, State and Secularism
-Political Science: The Basic Concepts,
-Security Perception and Change in the Middle East,
-Economies of the Middle East,
-Entrepreneurship,
-International Political Dynamics,
-Azerbaijan and the Turkish world,
-Interview Techniques with Press,
-Introduction to Security the Study,
-Business and Political Relations in Turkey: The Case of TUSIAD,
– Political Life of The Ottoman Empire and The Republic of Turkey,
-Fundamental Principles of Conflict Resolution and Mediation,
-Civil Society Organizations,
-Public Diplomacy,
-Syrian Turkmen,
-Diplomacy and Protocol
-Innovation Management,
-Social Media and Security
-Oratory, Elocution, Body Language and Studies for Broadcasting,

In addition to these courses, following institutions and organizations were visited;

-The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV)
· The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey University of Economy and Technology (TOBB ETU)

-Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Office of Public Diplomacy (KDK),
-Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities Directorate (YTB)
-Turkish Hearths,
-Presidency of the Republic of Turkey,
– Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
 
During the visits, these institutions and organizations were introduced and information is given about the activities of the institutions. Thus, on one hand, Iraqi Turkmen youth gained information about these institutions; on the other hand, the relations between Iraqi Turkmens and Turkey have also been strengthened. In addition, Iraqi Turkmen Personal Development and Leadership School provide the opportunity for Turkmen youth, who came from different Turkmen areas in Iraq, to express Turkmens’ problems, needs and demands to various Turkish authorities. Hence, institutions in Turkey and organizations were also informed about various Turkmen regions.

In addition, Iraqi Turkmen Personal Development and Leadership School became an important platform for Iraqi Turkmens. Iraqi Turkmen youth from various regions in Iraq, who cannot obtain the chances to gather due to the security issues as well as political, social and economic problems, had the opportunity to come together within the scope of Iraqi Turkmen Personal Development and Leadership School and became aware of each other.

At the end of the program, participants received their certificates due to their participation to “Iraqi Turkmen Personal Development and Leadership School” and their success in the program.
