On May 17th 2010, ORSAM organized a meeting with Alexander Kolesnikov, Head of Magazine of the Russian Parliament Middle East Desk; Assoc. Prof. Alexander Sotnichenko from the St. Petersburg City University; and Irina Svistunova form the Moscow State University International Relations. During the meeting, which was carried out right after the President of Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev's visit to Turkey, the Moscow government's perception of Middle East and Iraq, and the influences of Iraqi developments on Turkey's Middle East policy from the points of view of the Russian specialists were handled. During the meeting, which carried on with questions and exchange of views between ORSAM Specialists and the Russian delegation, the participants talked on the joint projects that the two countries could launch at intellectual and academic levels, beyond the political arena. ORSAM Director Hasan Kanbolat touched on the fact that the cooperation, which was carried out between Turkey and the Russian Federation within the framework of Cooperation Action Plan in Eurasia 2001 on legal grounds, could not achieve its potential success; and he emphasized that the common views and critics between Turkey and the Russian Federation on issues related to the Middle East should go beyond discourse.
