The head of Iraq's Islamic Supreme Council Ammar Abdulaziz Al-Hakim, together with his board, has visited Turkey in November. Al-Hakim has met Turkish President Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoğlu. One of the most important political figures of Iraq, Al-Hakim has participated to the roundtable discussion jointly organized by TEPAV and ORSAM as a speaker. Al-Hakim made a speech titled “ Iraq towards the General Elections and Turkey- Iraq Relations” at the meeting carried out on October 19, 2009. During his speech, he mentioned his views on the process that Iraq has been passing through, current political atmosphere, the outlook of his party to the main problems of Iraq, relations with Turkey and approaching elections. Al-Hakim also stated his opinions about Iraqi security after the US withdrawal, relations with Iran, Kirkuk and the Turcomen in response to the questions.
