The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) Visited ORSAM

A delegation from The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) visited Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies (ORSAM) on 19 August 2014. Japaneese delegation is composed of as follows: Professor Eiji Nagasawa from University of Tokyo, Manabu Shimizu is a Executive Director of Eurasia Consultant Ltd., Shuji Hosaka is a Senior Research Fellow and Assistant Director of JIME Center- IEEJ (the Institute of Energy Economic), Akiko Yoshioka is a Senior Researcher of the JIME Center- IEEJ (the Institute of Energy Economics), Kohei Imai is a Research Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotionof Science (JSPS), Meiji University and Mari Nukii is a Research Fellow of the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA).
 
At the meeting, the relationship between Turkey and Japan has been discussed as well as recent developments in the Middle East has been evaluated. In addition, both countries perspectives on the current events in the Middle East have been evaluated. At the meeting, ISIL threat has been argued.  Turkmen, Yezidi and other minorities’ situation after invasion of Mousul by ISIL were also discussed and both sides exchanged ideas. The meeting ended with question and answers of both Japanese delegation members and ORSAM researchers.
