“Turkey – Japan Relations and Perspectives Towards the Middle East” Workshop

ORSAM, in cooperation with The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) held a joint workshop entitled “Turkey –Japan Relations and Perspectives Towards the Middle East” on 28 February 2014. The workshop was chaired by ORSAM President Assoc. Prof. Şaban Kardaş and Professor of National Defence Academy Ryoji Tateyama; and was held with the participation of researchers from ORSAM and JIIA at ORSAM’s building. The meeting started with Assoc. Prof. Şaban Kardaş’s presentation on Turkey’s Middle East policy and Prof. Tateyama’s presentation on the Japanese perspective towards the Middle East. In his presentation, Kardaş elaborated on the basic principles and tools of Turkey’s Middle East policy in the last decade. Prof. Ryoji Tateyama elaborated the Japanese perspective towards the Middle East and also explained why the Middle East is so significant for Japan. In the question and answer section of the meeting, Syria issue and recent developments in the Middle East were discussed.
