Operation Peace Spring and Future of Syria

The military operation against YPG/PKK Turkey has been planning for a long time in the east of the Euphrates in Syria began on October 9, 2019 under the name of “Operation Peace Spring”. Through this operation it conducts in the context of the fight against terrorism, Turkey wants to create a safe zone free from the YPG/PKK, launch reconstruction process in the region and prepare the conditions for the return of some of the Syrians currently in Turkey to their own country. However, the operation will have, beyond Turkey’s expectations, a critical impact on the course of the Syrian civil war, the presence of the US in Syria, and the power struggle between Turkey-Russia-US-Iran. Middle East Research Center (ORSAM) will organize a panel entitled “Operation Peace Spring and the Future of Syria” on October 18, 2019 to discuss what “Operation Peace Spring” means for Turkey, the military and political objectives of the operation, and its impacts on Syria and regional competition. We would be pleased by your participation in the ORSAM panel.
