2018 is anticipated to be year full of elections in Iraq. It has been decided that the parliamentary elections which are the first elections of the year will be held on 12 May 2018. The idea of holding the provincial and district elections simultaneously with the parliamentary elections was previously brought to the agenda. The groups supporting the postponement of the parliamentary elections applied to the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq regarding the election date. The court acknowledged that the elections would be held on 12 May 2018 while it did not render a decision on the provincial and district elections. It was later accepted by the Iraqi Parliament that the local elections would be held on 22 December 2018.
