The functioning of the political system established in Iraq after 2003 has undergone transformations at both the institutional and societal levels over time. One of the most critical and symbolic centers of this transformation has been the province of Najaf. Notable for its religious and historical significance, as well as for being home to Shiite political actors, Najaf also has the capacity to gauge political trends across Iraq.
In this context, it is important to analyze the impact of the electoral process in the province of Najaf—and the political and social dynamics shaping it—on voter behaviors in the Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled for November 11, 2025. Within this framework, the current political balance in the province and its impact on the upcoming parliamentary elections, the internal and external orientations of Najaf voters, the factors influencing their voting preferences, and the impact of religious authorities and educational institutions in Najaf on the election process should be examined.
